I might possibly have a stroller obsession. I think it is pretty benign but other people think I need some sort of intervention. See some women buy shoes, I buy strollers. I haven't bought a new pair of shoes, besides sneakers, in years until this last trip when I bought some snow booties. Anyway, back to strollers. I was exchanging email with Brian's cousin Carla who is a flight attendant for United. She was suggesting that the next time we got to Disney I should stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
The last time we went to Disney, we stayed at the Polynesian because it had monorail service to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. We just strapped the kids in the double stroller in the room, walked to the monorail, pushed them onto it, rode to Disney, stayed until both kids passed out, then strolled them back to the monorail and to our room where we got them into bed.
We visited the Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner while we were there, but it doesn't have a monorail to the theme parks. If you want to go anywhere, you need to take a shuttle bus. No big deal if you have big kids, but if you have little ones, there is the problem of car seats and then what to do with them once you get to the theme park. Then having to strap them back in them for the ride home. Ugh, just thinking of all that is giving me anxiety.
She also suggested I get this car seat that turns into a full stroller that she has seen recently on the planes. Coincidently, Lucy has one of these. It seems like a good idea in theory, but it won't work for us for several reasons the biggest reason being -- I HAVE TOO MANY STROLLERS.
- I have Jack's first stroller that matches his baby Graco car seat that my parents bought me. The plastic is pretty scratched up from all the one handed opening and closing on cement. This one got its money's worth and it shows.
- Then we got one of those little Maclaren Volo umbrella strollers that fold up and weigh less than 10 lbs and have a strap to hang on your back. We got that because of all the traveling we did when Jack was a baby. The Graco stroller was just too big and bulky for the trips. I still use this stroller all the time but doesn't recline, however, so if Victor falls asleep he looks really uncomfortable.
- Then when Victor was born I got one of those Snap-n-go's. It basically looks like a small metal shopping cart and you just snap the baby car seat in (the one you carry into restaurants and stuff). I don't think this should count as a stroller because it is just a metal skeleton, but Brian does. (Free with gift certificates.)
- Then I got a Graco double stroller one in the front and one in the back. It was nice to use with that baby car seat. I could strap the baby seat in the back and Jack in the front and we were good to go. It is also nice to use in the summer, but it is really airy and freezing in NY winters. Plus it is HUGE. (Free with gift certificates.)
- So then I got the Maclaren double stroller where they sit side by side. This is nice for long trips because I can push them both easily around the airport and the theme parks, the seats recline for when they fall asleep and it folds very nicely. (Free with gift certificates.)
- After that I got a Sit-n-Stand. Jack can sit or stand (hence the name) in the back while Victor sits in front. This is nice because when Jack gets tired of walking (I like it better when he walks, but sometimes that isn't possible) he can stand in it and then if he gets really tired, he can turn around and sit. But if he gets sleepy it sucks because there is no place for him to fall asleep. This is a great stroller for going on short trips to the mall.
- Then I got my last stroller this past Fall. It is a single jogging stroller. Not that I do much (or any) jogging but it is nice to push Tor around the neighborhood and in the parks near our house while Jack is in school. I really like it.
It's just a good thing we use our garage for storage and park our cars in the driveway :).
