All day January 22, 2003, I was feeling kind of weird. I was three weeks away from my due date of Valentine's Day with Jack. I had already gone into premature labor twice and was hospitalized overnight both times. The first time I ended up missing my baby shower. So I never had a baby shower. Kind of weird.Anyway, I wasn't feeling like I did those times, I was just tired, really tired. I remember lying on my super comfortable green couch downstairs off and on all day napping. We went to Brian's favorite Greek restaurant for dinner and I came home and took a shower and climbed in bed with a book I had rented from the library by one of my favorite authors.
I finished the whole book by 3am. I dropped the book over the side of the bed and tried to get comfortable when I felt a pop, like a rubber band breaking in my abdomen. I felt my belly, but nothing felt weird, I didn't get a rush of water like you hear about when a woman's water breaks, but I instinctively knew my water broke.
I woke Brian up as I headed to the bathroom and told him what happened. Since we had already had two false alarms and water wasn't dripping down my legs, I don't think Brian quite believed me. At about 3:15 I had my first contraction though and we were sure.
Because of my history, I didn't wait until they were established and coming at regular intervals, we went ahead and called my doctor. He said to come on in and off we went.
It was a gorgeous evening. Beautiful white snow was everywhere, the air was crisp and we could see our breath in the car before it warmed up. The hospital was just a short drive down the Sprain from where we lived and we got there really quickly.
They put me in a really nice room at the beginning of the hall, hooked me up to monitors and verified that my water had indeed broken, and the baby was doing great...
UPDATE: It was "Tricky Business" not "Basket Case" that put me into labor.

Brian, that is why we ate at that Greek eestaurant a lot when we got closer to Tor's due date. I was hoping that it would make me go into labor on my own, rather than being induced.
Jo, thanks, I do feel like it is my BIRTHday too. It's kind of neat. I love being a mom :).

Wild. I didn't remember where we ate that day. I do remember how cold, dark and empty the highway was as we headed to the hospital. I don't think we've ever made it there faster!
