Stephenie Meyer is a Gator fan?

I had taken some library books with me to Cape Cod to read. I read two of them and the third was just inappropriate for a beach read so we HAD to go to Barnes & Noble -- that it had the only Starbucks around for miles was just gravy :). Anyway, one of the employees there recommended I read the Stephenie Meyer series. I didn't take her recommendation that day but when I went back the next day, I went ahead and bought the first book. I read it in one sitting, it was that good. Of course I love vampire novels :).

One of the vampires is named Emmitt. The only Emmitt I have ever hear of is Emmitt Smith of the Florida Gators (and later the Dallas Cowboys). I wondered if the character was named after him. I wonder no more. Last night I was reading the fourth book in the series, Breaking Dawn, and Emmitt was watching a college football game. When one of the teams scored Emmitt yelled, "Go Gators!" Coincidence? I think not :).

Earlier in my life a revelation like that would possibly sour me on the series (I am an FSU fan) but after living in NY for 10 years I have mellowed a little about that rivarly. Now I just hate really really dislike the Red Sox.

I would never have picked up on the Emmitt part, but I might have frowned and changed my opinion on the series after the comment about the game.

Buddy Jewell has a country song, Sweet Southern Comfort, and in it he references a bunch of southern states and sayings. Two that have turned Jim completely off from the song are "Go Dawgs Go" and "Roll Tide Roll." I have learned to turn my head on those two sayings, and usually sing my own part, something like "War Damn Eagle" but he can't do it.

I was going to say that you have Gators in your blood, but I guess that's not really true as I didn't go to UF until AFTER you were born. :) Ha!

Niki, I don't think we can be friendly anymore... Have I mentioned that I am the biggest Gator fan in the entire state of New York? Seriously. I've had pets named Wuerffel, Spurrier and Emmitt, and when Jessica and I eventually get a dog, I'm naming it Tebow. Heck, I don't even follow any pro football teams - I just root for whatever team has the most Gators on it.

Thank goodness for Picasa! It didn't take long to find them at all. I really did stumble upon them as I was looking for the pic of you me and Brian which I never found. Thank you and Jim for sending it to me :).

So maybe I am not quite as over FSU/UF as I thought :).

were there any scenes in the book when Emmitt twirled around on the ballroom floor?
